Microsoft Teams is on its way to becoming a social media.

It's the XXI century so technology is getting more and more advanced, and our daily routine is getting more and more addicted to the internet and electronic devices. Especially during COVID-19 time a lot of companies changed their working system to remote ones and nowadays it has become just an option and convenient form of work. There are a lot of applications designed for online meetings with Zoom, Slack, and Microsoft Teams as the most popular ones these days. But we’ve got bad news for social media haters - Microsoft Teams is getting Instagram and Facebook-inspired features.

After being strongly focused on Teams and its new Viva platform as the hub of communication in workplaces, Microsoft is now launching Viva Engage, a new Facebook-like app inside Teams that encourages social networking at work. It's partly built on Microsoft's Yammer, promoting digital communities, conversations, and self-expression in the workplace. While Yammer still holds its sort of unique visual design, when you look at Viva Engage, you instantly think of Facebook. It’s a bit puzzling though because Metaverse and Microsoft are not on good terms. Probably the goal was to feel familiar with the app and maybe even use it in a similar way, which may lead to that coworkers will share their personal information on Microsoft teams the same way they would on Facebook. Microsoft tried to create something like this for a decade and Yammer was the main tool to achieve that.

As it’s not enough, Viva Engage will include stories similar to what you can find on Snapchat or Instagram, which might be a little ironic because that’s exactly the same feature that Microsoft deleted from LinkedIn a year before.

So, if for some reason you desperately need to show off photos of your vacation and make your coworkers jealous, you can now do it on Microsoft Teams, no need to stalk them on Instagram or other social media.
