Updated: May 26, 2022

If you love technology and are looking for a stable, high-paying job, you're in luck. The technology sector is booming, and IT is expected that the number of IT professions will continue to grow in the next decade. Skills in the field of cloud technologies, security, data, and artificial intelligence are included in the list of the most popular vacancies for 2021.

Data Processing Specialist (Data Scientist)

According to WEF, a data processing specialist is a position for which demand is growing in all industries. Robert Half Technology named a data processing specialist one of the most important technological roles this year and noted that the average salary of such specialists is $129,000 per year. At the time of writing the article on the website Indeed.com, there were 13,299 vacancies.

To get this job, you will need advanced data analysis skills and at least a degree in mathematics, statistics, or a related field.

Data Analyst

Data analysts often work hand-in-hand with data specialists, and WEF actually combines these two types of positions. However, it is worth noting that these two specialties have different requirements and salaries. So, a Data Analyst is a person who conducts a descriptive (descriptive) analysis of data, interprets it, and submits a report to interested parties.

The analyst's remuneration is on average $103,250, according to Robert Half Technology. In March on the website, Indeed.com 19,241 vacancies were indicated.

Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning Specialist (AI/Machine Learning Specialist)

The third popular position, Artificial intelligence/machine learning specialist, is closely related to the first two. Data scientists and data analysts often use machine learning tools and work closely with developers, engineers, and architects. In the WEF report, this role is noted as the second in terms of demand growth in all industries. An artificial intelligence/machine learning specialist was also included in Robert Half Technology's list of critical technology roles. According to him, the average salary of artificial intelligence architects is $148,000. At the time of writing on Indeed.com 8,840 vacancies were placed in the field of artificial intelligence and machine learning.

These positions require at least a bachelor's degree with several years of experience working with artificial intelligence and/or machine learning tools. The existing certificates will not be superfluous.

Digital Transformation Specialist

The digital transformation specialist took seventh place in the list of WEF roles. The Robert Half Technology report notes that the lack of technical talent before the pandemic prevented many companies from implementing digital transformation at the desired pace. And these organizations now need to catch up.

At the beginning of March, the resource Indeed.com offered 26,504 jobs related to digital transformation, but the level of pay and skills varied greatly. For example, business transformation directors or digital transformation vice presidents may need at least 10-15 years of relevant experience, while entry-level jobs sometimes require a master's degree, but a year of experience is enough. Wages also vary greatly depending on what is listed on the Glassdoor employment website: from $44,000 to $278,000.

Information Security Analyst (Information Security Analyst)

During the pandemic, the number of cyber-attacks increased significantly, which forced many organizations to increase the number of employees dealing with security issues. An information security analyst ranked eighth on the WEF job list, with growing demand, and Robert Half calls cybersecurity and data privacy experts a critical technology role for 2021. The average salary in this area is $118,000 for network security administrators and $149,000 for information systems security managers.

Internet of Things Specialist (IoT Specialist)

The WEF report says that the Internet of Things (IoT) specialist ranks 10th in the list of positions with growing demand. This is a voluminous position that may include the architecture of Internet of Things systems, hardware and software development for objects connected to the Internet, data analysis of the Internet of Things, and much more. The Robert Half report identifies IoT as a critical technology feature for 2021, and the research company Foote Partners recently stated that IoT is rapidly gaining momentum. At the beginning of March on Indeed.com, 956 vacancies of IoT specialists were placed, as well as 5,550 positions of IoT engineers. Wages vary greatly depending on job responsibilities.

Project Manager (Project Manager)

With so many people working remotely, keeping the entire project team operational is harder than ever, so it's not surprising that the number of project manager positions is increasing. These professionals usually have at least a bachelor's degree, and many also have professional certificates. Robert Half says that project management is one of the most in-demand interpersonal communication skills by employers, and adds that Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is one of the most in-demand. Project managers in the US can earn from $96,000 to $161,500 with an average salary of $114,750. At the time of writing on Indeed.com 53,083 vacancies for project managers were placed.

Architect of cloud solutions (Cloud Architect)

Companies were already moving to the cloud even before the pandemic, and sudden disruptions have only intensified this trend. In the Robert Half report, the architect of cloud solutions was included in the list of the most important technological roles, and cloud computing skills related to Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud are listed as one of the most in-demand IT skills. Cloud architects also receive high salaries. The salary in the USA for titled players ranges from $121,000 to $202,500, with an average of $146,000. And on Indeed.com at the time of writing, there were 65,780 vacancies for a cloud solution architect.

Application Developer/Software Engineer

These two positions are often interchangeable. In the WEF report, software and application developers ranked ninth in the list of roles with growing demand, and in early March on indeed.com 58,868 vacancies for application development were posted. The salary in the US for this position averages about $90,000, while senior application developers often earn more than $108,000.

As application developers, software engineers are always in great demand. These two roles are somewhat similar since both require programming skills. Robert Half calls software engineers one of the most important technological roles and reports that salaries in this position range from $103,750 to $172,500, an average of $123,250. In early March, employers posted on Indeed.com 96,241 vacancies in software development.

IT Director (Chief Information Officer)

We should add that one of the most popular professions at the end of last year was the IT director. So, according to the Dice job site, for example, only in the period from August to September 2020, the vacancy lists in this category increase by almost 40%.

Because technical knowledge alone is not enough for successful automation. Today's business needs people with strong communication skills. This is especially important for positions such as CIOs, where most of the responsibilities include transmitting information in an understandable form to all interested parties, including those who do not have a technical background. According to the Robert Half Technology Salary Guide 2021, the top U.S. CIOs earned more than $200,000 a year.
