PC - an abbreviation for personal computer. Nowadays it’s a very common thing and even necessary in many kinds of jobs, a thing that most people own. Because of that, we don’t even pay attention to that it’s one of the most important technological creations. We don’t even realize that what we carry in our pockets is just a compact version of a PC. Humanity likes science and discovery, the more advanced technology the higher the snowball effect is. Earlier it was just a helpful gadget, today the greatest mathematicians can’t even dream about comparing themselves to PC calculating possibilities. Meet Frontier, the fastest and also the very first exascale supercomputer in the world, the US’s pride. Designed by Hewlett Packard Enterprise located in Oak Ridge National Lab, in Tennessee. I doubt that any technology freak could fit it in his house unless one has a mansion, Frontier is truly huge. But it didn’t get its title because of the size, it beats the next best supercomputer with twice as high possibilities and is better than the next seven machines combined. The lab says it remains on track for final acceptance and it’s also planned to open for full science at the beginning of 2023. As if that’s not enough to be amazed, projects already planned for Frontier include research into cancer, meds discovery, nuclear fusion, exotic materials, superefficient engines, and stellar explosions. The aim of the machine is to speed up the time required for such work from weeks to hours and from hours to seconds.
As we all know, the US and China have competed for decades in many categories. For now, the US gained a winning point, but we all know that China won’t give up and might come up with something as impressive as the Frontier Project. Now it’s time to bet on what will be China’s next creation or discovery and who will lead in this exciting competition.
